Matilda The Musical success in Leeds
“I was very impressed by TicketCo, certainly the best thing out there following a great deal of research into other companies” says Steve Hackshaw, Assistant Head Teacher at Ralph Thoresby School, Leeds.
Every year at the Ralph Thoresby School the pupils prepare a big production, then perform in front of an audience of friends and family. This year an abridged version of ‘Matilda The Musical’, a much loved story by Roald Dahl, and also a popular West End musical was dramatised.
During the month of February the production took place over three performances in the school auditorium. Being a seated venue, TicketCo offered a solution that allowed the audience to select seats when buying tickets. At the same time it was crucial to give the audience options when buying tickets, the options being online or at the door. This omnichannel solution that TicketCo offers, together with a seating map functionality when ordering tickets, proved to be a perfect match with successful results.
Seating map was key
TicketCo’s free venue seating plan works in the same way as any theatre/cinema. It gives the organiser the ability to create ticket types for different seating areas. For example front seats have a different price than back seats which have less visibility. Therefore it allows the audience to choose their seats themselves and not be automatically allocated when buying a ticket. This was exactly what Steve was after when looking for ticketing solution:
“I was looking for an online ticketing system that offered a seating plan option for a theatre, as well as customisable price brackets for different seats” he adds.
In addition, the ticket buyers had exactly the same functionality on mobile phones as on a desktop with the mobile seating plans. This enables the audience to purchase tickets with ease on any device without any disruption.

Increased sales and reduced workload for staff
A free iZettle was delivered to the school from TicketCo. This enabled the school to take card payments for tickets at the door. All sales, both online and card payments are unified in the TicketCo system giving 100% control regarding the venue capacity. Post event the TicketCo system gives one ‘settlement report‘ containing both online and on-site sales which makes accounting a piece of cake.
Steve also utilised features such as the promo code functionality and up-scaling for income items like refreshments. The online ticket sales were linked directly to the Ralph Thoresby School website and Facebook pages, giving plenty of options for promoting the shows via online channels whilst selling tickets.
“I have been really impressed, it has saved us so much time. I believe, as a result of TicketCo, we achieved much better sales this year, compared with previous events” Steve concludes.
