A multi-purpose sports and community venue that will host British Championship Speedway has partnered with TicketCo to offer visitors cashless ticketing.
Oxford Stadium which is due to re-open this year following a major regeneration programme will be a seven-day-a-week community hub, hosting greyhound racing, speedway, events and conferences. Its facilities will include a grandstand restaurant, executive suites, a wellness centre and sports bar.
The stadium which was last open to the public in 2012 is all gearing up for its big return and will use cashless technology for ticketing and payments. The venue appointed TicketCo to simplify its supporters’ ticket purchasing journey, improve their stadium experience and help the stadium develop commercially.
The partnership breaks new ground for TicketCo, with the cloud-based events payment company entering the greyhound racing and British speedway markets for the first time.
Greyhound racing will be held several times a week while Oxford Cheetahs and Oxford Chargers will compete in the British Speedway Championship and National League respectively on Wednesday evenings.
Lisa Hust, Commercial Operations Manager at Oxford Stadium, said: “The reopening of Oxford Stadium has captured the imagination of the city and we are expecting sell-out crowds at our opening events this spring. Visitor demand means we require an easy-to-use secure platform where we can quickly and effectively sell tickets for multiple events under one roof.
“Our partnership with TicketCo will help ensure visitors’ first experience of stepping into Oxford Stadium will be positive from the minute they buy a ticket to when they leave the stadium. It’s been a challenging decade for greyhound racing and speedway supporters in Oxfordshire, but there is real excitement for 2022.”
Joe Edwards, Global Key Account Manager at TicketCo, added: “The Oxford Stadium is exciting news for the sports and events industry. To have a venue re-opening amid what has been a challenging time for the industry is such positive news and we’re proud to be part of it.
“Times have changed significantly since Oxford Stadium last opened with technology improving customer experience levels in sports stadia across the UK. It’s great to see the venue invest in digital to make sure it provides a market leading service to its visitors. Everyone at TicketCo would like to wish the Oxford Stadium team the very best ahead of opening night and we look forward to visiting soon.”
