TicketCo soars with Alex Eagle

TicketCo will be scaling big both in UK and abroad in the next year, and the first new UK recruit has now entered the successful Scandinavian ticketing, event payments and live streaming company.

From his home office in South Wales, Partner Key Account Manager Alex Eagle will nurture relationships and build and manage a healthy sales pipeline focused on driving revenue, adoption, and market penetration within the European sports market.

“I was never good enough to make it as a professional football player, but I’ve always felt a strong connection to football,” said Alex. “I had the pleasure to work with the National team of Wales as Sales and Marketing Executive for three years since 2015, where I also took the lead as team Operations Manager for the national team at the Inaugural China Cup. Since then I’ve had positions as Commercial Manager at Newport County AFC and Head of Digital at Swansea City Football Club. Now I’m looking forward to continue my commercial career within sports as TicketCo’s Partner Key Account Manager,” added Alex.

From academy player to Commercial Manager

The 35 year old Welshman joined TicketCo as the first of several new UK recruits at the beginning of August, and brings a unique blend of experience, as a former player in the Newport County Academy and commercial skills both within and outside of sports.

“My way into the commercial side of professional football started more or less by luck in 2015, when I met Suzanne Twamley of the Football Association of Wales through my position as Business Manager for Evans Halshaw,” said Alex. “Vauxhall was a principal partner of the Football Association at that time and that was why our paths crossed. By pure accident there were a vacant sales and marketing executive role in the Football Association just then, with the application deadline later the very same day. I decided to give it a try, and that was the start of three amazing years where I was lucky to be working close with the first team and great players such as Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.”

From there, Alex became Commercial Manager for his boyhood club Newport County AFC.

Lucrative occasions well taken care of

“I had two great years at Newport County in a stand alone role as the club’s Commercial Manager,” said Alex. For a club the size of Newport County it is a vital role, and it gave me great insights in how to create revenue. Those insights will be valuable in my new role at TicketCo. My fondest memory from those two years is maybe The ‘Un-sponsoring Football’ front of shirt sponsorship campaign we ran with PaddyPower. The deal was secured by myself. It was the club’s biggest commercial deal ever, and has since won numerous industry awards including winners of the UK campaign of the year at the Sport Industry Awards 2020, seeing off competition from the likes of the BBC, The FA, BT Sport, and O2.”

He added: “I was also blessed with being part of major FA Cup matches against sides such as Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. As Commercial Manager, lucrative occasions like that are gifts that needs to be well taken care of and to be turned into great moments both commercially and event wise.”

Alex’s success with Newport County AFC was noticed at the Liberty Stadium 50 miles west of Rodney Parade, and a year ago he was approached by Swansea City AFC with an offer for the position as the Championship club’s Head of Digital.

A unique solution

“I have a wish to work at the highest level possible within sports, and this was another step up that ladder for me” said Alex. “But Covid-19 has been harsh for every club in the pyramid, so also for Swansea City. I left the club in February this year, and since then I’ve been at the lookout for my next career move within sports. That opportunity came with TicketCo,” he said.

At TicketCo Alex’s role as Key Partner Account Manager will be to nurture relationships, identify new partnerships and to build pipeline both within sports and within businesses related to sports.
