‘The best New Year’s Eve I’ve ever had!’ Just The Tonic live stream showstopping night of comedy via TicketCo Media Services
It may have been a year to forget, but many ended 2020 with a night to remember after UK comedy club Just The Tonic hosted a laugh-a-minute New Year’s Eve virtual show using TicketCo Media Services’ live streaming technology.
Viewers tuned into ‘Working From Home: Good Riddance 2020’ in their thousands as household names from the UK comedy circuit delivered laughs a minute in a ground breaking comedy format. They included A listers Romesh Ranganathan and Al Murray and top emerging acts including Britain’s Got Talent stars Micky P Kerr and Daliso Chaponda.
The blockbuster five-hour show ended a year like no other for Just The Tonic owner Darrell Martin. It brought together a selection of comedians he had booked for live shows at its venues that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the New Year’s Eve show’s success, Darrell has confirmed Just The Tonic will continue to grow its live streaming service by hosting ‘Working From Home: The Final Push.. Get Me Out Of Here’ at the end of January.
Additionally, the critically acclaimed comedy club will continue its partnership with TicketCo Media Services beyond the easing of COVID-19 restrictions by hosting hybrid events to maximise potential revenue.
Darrell Martin said: “Lockdown has forced all promoters to look at other ways of producing comedy. The pandemic has made me realise people are happy to stay at home and watch comedy on their own TV – and we will use that knowledge to monetise our live performances moving forward via hybrid events.
“TicketCo Media Services’ technology is simple for me to use and fits within my budgets. It is also adaptable meaning my company will face no barriers in live streaming performances that can be attended physically – we’re opening up an entire new audience.
“I had people emailing me saying it was the best New Year’s they have had and asked if we have plans to do similar shows in the future. I couldn’t quite believe the response and I am delighted the show provided people with some much-needed respite from the world.”
Saved by streaming
Since becoming the inaugural partner of TicketCo Media Services, when it launched its secure pay-per-view live streaming and video on demand service in response to the pandemic, Just The Tonic has developed its online shows. Without live streaming, Darrell fears his business model would have collapsed and the comedy industry would be at breaking point.
He added: “I don’t know what I would have done without live streaming – I would have felt redundant.
“Redundant was a massive word that was buzzing around my head at the start of the pandemic. No one could go anywhere, and it felt like my skills were no longer required. The research I did into live streaming before choosing to partner with TicketCo Media Services was extensive. In 25 years of promoting, I have established the trust of some of the UK’s finest comedians – now is not the time to lose that trust.”
Having a secure platform that protected the show’s content from being shared was an important factor for Darrell.
He said: “The comedians put their faith in myself and TicketCo Media Services’ technology when I vowed to them that their content on my digital shows wouldn’t appear for free on social media. I love the security TicketCo Media Service provides and look forward to working with them more in the future.”
David Kenny, TicketCo’s Global Partnership Director said: “It’s great to see Just the Tonic’s live streaming shows go from strength to strength. This is exactly what our pay-per-view live streaming solution was created for, to help the events industry keep performing and generate income.”
TicketCo Media Services is a cloud-based event payment company, with offices in Norway, the UK, and Sweden. The payment platform is integrated with its pay-per-view live streaming and video-on-demand service.
Just The Tonic was launched in Nottingham more than 25 years ago and has played host to countless up and coming comics as well as the most established TV names. It is now one of the most respected live comedy brands in the UK with venues in Leicester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Reading and Watford.
