TicketCo’s new Key Account manager has had a 12 year semi-professional Ice Hockey career, and is still playing for his local club, The Oxford City Stars. He has moved from the position of National Account Manager at Carabao Energy Drink.

“I have been around Sports all of my life and therefore understand the importance of fan engagement, match day experiences and the ever growing financial requirements that sports clubs need to remain sustainable for growth. My professional career has been predominantly working for challenger brands in highly competitive markets making this role a perfect fit. I am excited to be joining at such an exciting time, TicketCo are taking the UK ticketing and event payments market into the new digital world,” says Joe Edwards.

Smooth event payment solutions
After seven years working in sales and account management within retail in the UK, he will now focus on bringing smooth event payment solutions to the sports industry throughout the UK.

“I have known Country Manager David Kenny from his previous life in event management, and I’ve been following the TicketCo journey with great interest since the UK introduction in 2016. With the GB hockey team experiencing great success in the World Championship back in May, I suggested to David that TicketCo should enter the Ice Hockey arena to support clubs capture the increased interest in the sport – which I’m sure with the right support, will equal great commercial progress in the UK over the next few years. When the role became available, it felt like the perfect move for me to get on-board,” says the new KAM.

Will be travelling across Britain
Mr Edwards is based in Oxford, and will be commuting to the TicketCo offices in Shoreditch.

“Traveling is something that comes with managing National accounts, and I am used to it now. And to be honest, I plan to spend as much time with my customers as possible. The sports industry is a typical people business, and I will be on the road a lot, visiting Football, Rugby and Ice Hockey clubs across the UK.

Carabao sponsorships
The sports industry is not a new arena for Joe. Besides his ice hockey career, he has been involved in Carabao, which has had a large impact on UK Football over the last few years – with clubs including Chelsea and Reading FC, plus the Carabao Cup competition.

“I was not directly responsible for the partnerships at Carabao, but of course I made some contacts that will come in handy at TicketCo,” he said.

Volunteer Commercial support at Oxford City Stars
Another handy experience is his volunteer work at Oxford City Stars.

“Besides playing for the club, I’ve been helping out with the marketing and commercial strategy in the past. We are not a big club, and dependent on this kind of labour – as most clubs are. And I must say that TicketCo really can make a difference for clubs such as ours. Easiness is one big plus, but another and equally important aspect is how TicketCo enables small clubs to operate an efficient sales and marketing platform on par with Premiership football clubs with close to zero budgets. That is a strong USP,” he claims.
